Gerald Glesphy Perara

Mr Perara has over 40 years’ experience as a banking lawyer.
His career in banking commenced when he was an Administrative Officer with Bank Negara Malaysia (Central Bank of Malaysia) in the Bank Regulation Department. At Bank Negara, he was actively involved in the interpretation, administration and development of banking laws, regulations, policy objectives, directives and the implementation as well as the supervision of various financial institutions, particularly merchant banks.
Presently Gerald leads the corporate banking and debt market team where his team advises investment banks and commercial banks in all aspects of credit and lending including drafting term sheets, loan syndication, security documentation, moneylending, venture capital and rescheduling and restructuring of debts. The banking team also provides domestic and international corporate clients with advice on complying with the exchange control regime governed by the Central Bank of Malaysia.
Besides traditional financing, Gerald has experience in the private debt securities sector having advised on various conventional and Islamic bonds and notes issues as well as Eurobond and USD denominated convertible and exchangeable bonds (listed on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange and international bourses).
Gerald has in the last two decades added to his portfolio the development and financing of independent power projects pursuant to privatisation programmes instituted by the Governments of Malaysia, the United Kingdom, and certain African and South East Asian nations.
